Re: Looks like this one is more correct

    Jerry,

The repro that Joe R posted above is FAR better than the one you've linked to.
The one you show has more inaccuracies than accuracies.

As noted, there are a couple of different versions of the RC-26. But, as they are not very common I don't have enough examples to go too much further with another Restorer article.

Two years ago Tom DeWitt was going to change radiator cap suppliers after my article came out. Either he hasn't changed suppliers, hasn't changed the picture, or both.

Re: Here's one variant off my early '65 C60

"Basically, I think that the only part of the cap that received a 'custom stamping' was the model number and relief pressure. The rest was 'standard'."

      Joe,

I would agree. Some variations of the RC-15 I've seen would confirm this.

        Re: 65 Corvette Tank Caps w/ & w/o C60

Rick - 1965 Corvettes w/o C60 used the #307 cap and w/ C60 used an RC-26 cap of the configuration Wayne Midkiff posted. 1966 & 1967 sb and newer Corvettes w/ Al tanks all used an RC-26 of the configuration posted by Gerald Fuccillo, Joe Randolf, and Kent Keech. And as Joe Lucia pointed out the location on the info stamped on the cap can vary and I have seen 1966 and newer original RC-26 caps with the #15/RC-26 at different 90 degree orientations on the ear with the AC logo towards the opposite ear; caps with the #15/RC-26 on the "other" ear along with the AC logo towards the opposite ear, and RC-26 caps with the AC logo and the #15/RC-26 by the same ear. This is a great hobby. Have fun. Pete

          Re: 65 Corvette Tank Caps w/ & w/o C60

          Pete,
Thanks for the info. It still surprises me that Tom Dewitt sold me the wrong cap as I bought a radiator, expansion tank and the cap. I had them date stamped and he was aware that it was a small block non AC car. They still list on their website the incorrect cap for my application. Oh well, I got 2 years or so of use out the cap and will buy the correct repo from LI Corvette. Thanks again for your and others help.

          Rick
