    SWC Value?

Was anyone surprised, as I was, that a Riverside Red original-looking SWC sold for only $37K at the B-J Auction last night?

Yes, but since I'm in the market for one, I'm going to say "WOW, that's expensive!!!"

I thought it went for $57,000?

        Same here...

I thought the cheap one was the solid axle "quasi race car" at $28k.
Look for that one to show up on ProTeam's site soon for $49k....

          Re: SWC Value?

Well it depends on what you mean by "surprised". $57K (not including the 16% buyer’s fee) is about spot on the market value of the car. I think this is good for the hobby. I have been lamenting for years all the damage being done to the collector car market by B-J; destruction of nice original cars to turn them into "clones" and grotesque "resto-mods", inflating the market and forcing out hobbyists who have a sincere respect for the cars and would spend the time and effort to preserve them, etc. I consider them the "evil empire" and what happens when you get a couple of thousand grossly vain people together who have a lot more money in their pockets than brains in their heads.

I have noticed that many of the cars at B-J are selling for near their market value this year. Hopefully this signals an end to the madness.

Okay - I'll get off my B-J is evil soapbox and go back to polishing the wheels on my LT4.

You may ask: if he hates B-J so much, then why does he watch it. I guess it's like seeing a train wreck: I just can't look away. :-)

Note Lot #745, the baby blue SS/RS with AC "numbers matching" but pimped out Camaro that probably sold for $15-20k less than I would have projected for a "correctly restored" car. Someone made a mistake when they redid that car...

But I note that the ladies had fun bidding on it.

Gotta love the statement in the description that the 388 block is "rare" (only 2 in Z/28's and 4 in SS's); that's an error in the Colvin book, and every Camaro you see for sale with a 388 block sez "rare-rare block" . We have the "numbers" on over 10,000 '67-'69 Camaros in our CRG database, and many of them have 388 blocks.

I saw it go for $57K too. Nice SWC. The prices aren't going to go down. You can take that to the bank too.Save the Wave. Enjoy the show.>George

                  interesting point

my 1963 SWC cost about $5000 and allowing for inflation that car would cost $34,000 today. so the true value of the car went up about $25,000 in 45 years. and that is not allowing for the cost to restore. i think gov't bonds would be a better deal. JMHO

                    Lowell, this car?

I think 58k is ok, especially in re-sale red.

That's right. Anyone who buys a collector car for investment purposes just doesn't understand the investment world. Take for example land. In the Pacific Northwest, where I have lived all my many years, land has been the very best investment over the long haul. Since the mid 60s, bare land has escalated, in general, by about 100x. Thats right, spend $5000 on bare land 40 years ago and it is now selling ( in spite of the market downturn) far north of $500,000. Is a nice C2 doing that - I don't think so!

Here in SW mnts of Colorado As they say "Never too later to invest in a Ranch" But its Location, location with live water and Ag. Status in the West. Our land has proven better investments. But the muscle cars are soo much fun. Colorado was ranked 47th for appreciation last few years. Now looks good compared to the hysteria mrkt corrections in the other states. My grandfather told us, Buy land but make sure it got water rights. He's was so right. BTW on B-Jackson, thought Reggie Jacksons 61 Convertible SS 409 Impala was a steal at 48K. Such a rare car
