I know of one C4 owner who left his Corvette at the dealership for service with less than 500 miles on it. He didn't find out until over a year later that the service included a new short block. He was not a happy camper. Stuff happens.

there were a lot of BB corvettes that had the engines changed under warranty because of dropped valves, etc. the 5 year 50K warranty cost GM lots of money in high performance engines

Clem, Kind of makes you wonder what it will cost GM with the current 5 year and 100K mile warranty, doesn't it? History repeats itself? Dave

the newer GM power trains are durability tested 300,000 miles so i bet they have a pretty good grip on this now. these new engines have built in rev limiters and the computer can tell GM if there was abuse.

Dave I bought my new 1970 Corvette off the showroom floor of a small dealership east of Dallas in Terrell,TX one late aftenoon in July 1970. I was told to come back the next day for the car. I picked it up right when the dealership was closing the next day. The car was driven out of the service bay area and shut off. The salesman and I were the last to leave the dealership, he left in his car as I was getting into my new Corvette. I started it up and felt the cold air from the factory air and noticed the oil pressure guage was not showing any oil pressure. Cut it off immediately and checked the oil. It was full of clean oil. I really thought the guage had quit working, this was a brand new car with just a few miles on it. I did not even get 10 miles down the highway enroute to Dallas. Wrong thing to do.
