Can anyone tell me what exact RPO#s cam when you ordered Z51 Performance Handling Package in 1984? (ie KC4 Oil Cooler, FG3 Shocks...) Also do the production numbers listed in place like "The Black Book" for those RPO#s only reflect non Z51 orders of those options? Example: "The Black Book" states there were 25,995 Z51s plus it shows 4,295 KC4 oil coolers. So does that mean there were 30,290 KC4 oil coolers installed? I am trying to figure out my new 84s rarity or nonrarity!.... Eric #3,182

Eric------
The complete list of components included in the Z51 package can also be found in the black book. I can confirm to you that the components listed are the ones that were included in the package and different from non-Z51 cars. The KC5 oil cooler, included with the Z51, was also available separately. So, the number shown in the black book represents only those cars for which the KC5 was ordered separately. Obviously, none of these cars would have been Z51-equipped.
Each of the Z51 components should be shown on your "Service Parts Identification Label" by the production code.
By the way, all of the Z51 components could be purchased over-the-counter and installed on a 1984 (albeit with great difficulty in some cases) EXCEPT for one item. Z51 used special bushings on the control arms. The bushings for ANY 1984 were never available as a separate part from GM, but were only available as an assembly with the control arms. The control arms with the special bushings were never available in SERVICE from GM; you could only get the control arms with the standard bushings. Check your control arm bushings and note their color; let us know what you find.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: What was includeded in 84 Z51?
Joe,
Thanks for the reply. Make sense to me. The Service Parts Identification shows it's a Z51. I assume it is correct since the car only has 3,000 miles. There are three codes I cam unsure what they mean:
B16: My list says Special Option Package Processing
1AZ: Modification Stock Order or Order Sold
66M: Could not find it, but I assume it is the color... This is a two tone Bronze car.
One interesting non option is it doesn't have power locks. Never saw one missing that option. Eric #3,182- Top

Blue is the color code for the Z51 bushings. All of the suspension pieces with the pre-installed bushings (which includes most of the suspension bushings) were not available in SERVICE for the HD versions. Some of the SEPARATELY available bushings (like those for the sway bars) were/are available in both standard and HD versions. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: More ?? on Z51
Eric------
Generally, all the individual components of a "package" (like Z51) will be included on a service parts identification label. So, for instance, if KC4 is included with the package, then KC4 will also appear on the parts label.
From what I can tell, there were THREE different sets of shocks used for 1984. One set was the standard shocks. Another set was "heavy duty" and denoted by F51. The third set were gas-charged shocks and denoted by FG3. The FG3 shocks were the Delco-Bilstein shocks. I do not know which broadcast codes applied to which shocks, though. However, the Delco-Bilstein shocks are easily otherwise identified.
I would expect that the F51 shocks were those that were ordinarily supplied with the Z51 package. If one ordered the FG3 option, then one got the Delco Bilstein shocks. Whether FG3 was available without Z51, I do not know.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
