Re: Who sold it?
GM made a deal with B-J. The proceeds above MSRP (whatever that turns out to be) go to The United Way and is tax deductible to the buyer.
As stated, the car on the stage was a prototype. The actual production VIN sequence #1 ZR1 that is certified to all applicable safety and emission regulations will be delivered to the buyer and is scheduled to be built next June at the start of '09 production.
IIRC they did state that this would be the ONLY production ZR1 painted that particular shade of blue, which is the same as the displayed prototype.

The displayed ZR1 is Jetstream Blue. The car that is to be built will be LeMans Blue -- the only ZR1 to be painted LeMans Blue -- or so they stated.
LeMans Blue is a 2006 & 2007 color, and a darker blue (might be described as Royal Blue) than the 2008 color Jetstream Blue -- which is closer to Nassau or Mulsanne Blue.
To confuse the issue a whole lot more the lighter blue (Jetstream or Nassau) was called LeMans Blue in one year (1968 or 1969 off the top of my head), but I very much doubt that kind of esoteric information was in the Chevrolet prepared material that the folks on the podium were reading. My guess is whoever wrote that wasn't even born in 1968 or 1969.
All in all it was quite a circus. It was very entertaining on TV. Kind of makes one wonder how more or less entertaining it would be in person.Terry- Top

Re: Who sold it?
I was there last year. Every car lover should go at least once. There is a lot more going on than just the auction. Also R&M auction is right across the road from BJ. I think there are 5 or 6 auctions this week end. I live in Auburn In home of the ACD Kruse auction & show. The Scottsdale auction has super cars & people with more money than they know what to do with. It's Disneyland & Las Vegas rolled in one for car people.

Re: Who sold it?
I was there in 2002. To me it's one of those "been there done that" deals. It's worth going to see in person, but only once.
Thank God the crowds were still "reasonable" back in '02, I went early on the first day of the auction that I recall was Thursday that year so I could look at all the cars before the auction started, then watched the first few hours of the auction.
I think I heard it announced that a quarter million people attended this year, and that is probably the sum of all five days' attendance, so a lot of heads are counted more than once.
Nowadays, it's TV entertainment to me, where I can gather with friends, sit in a comfortable chair with a favorite beverage at hand, and be "entertained" by the spectacle, but this year there were entirely too many commercial breaks - much more than I recall last year, so next year I may just pass on the whole thing and look at the final results on the Internet after it's over.

Unfortunately what they said, and what
the GM press release said are two different things.
It is not the paint, but a UV protectant for the carbon fiber roof and halo. I think it is either the coating for the CF or an additive in the coating that is 60K a gallon.
Accuracy and detail are not the strong suit of any auction.Terry- Top
