Can anyone tell me if this generator on ebay looks correct for an early 59 (Dec 58) FI corvette? The judging guide states that the end plate is solid cast instead of having the cadmium cap. The body should be semi-flat black, but can you tell if the generator is otherwise correct? I actually ordered this generator from him (which he built from scrap and NOS parts) and told him he may have done it wrong, so he decided to sell it on eBay... I'm worried the internals may be correct also, as far as the larger bearing.

Re: correct early 1102059 generator on ebay?
Ian,
According to the NCRS 1958-60 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (yellow book)it says, "Early 1958 through approximately mid January (serial #3000), used an end frame with a solid cast or closed bearing carrier. Later generators through 1960 used an open hole bearing carrier with a cadmium plated plug retaining the rear bearing."
I think you will be making the correct move by NOT buying the generator on Ebay. Good luck, JB- Top

Re: correct early 1102059 generator on ebay?
My serial number is 2382 so it falls into the early 059 category of generator, and this one has a solid-case endplate. I'm just worried this one isn't correct - for instance, is it the right solid-case end plate? Are you saying I shouldn't get it because there's no way to know, or because you know it looks wrong? I can't find a picture of one. I have Noland Adam's book and it shows the cadmium plug type generator...- Top

Re: correct early 1102059 generator on ebay?
I have an early 58' #1327 which has the solid end case. If I read correctly you said that you have an early 59' which would require the end cover with the "freeze plug" type cadmium cover. I think that when the judging and technical guide said "until serial #3000" I think they are refering to 1958 Corvettes up until #3000. If I am wrong hopefully someone else will chime in.- Top
