    Washer pump dissasembly

Does anyone know how to remove the plunger head from the stem? It will turn and it seems as though there must be a way to remove it but I can't get it off.
    Thanks.

Push in and turn 90 degrees will remove the plunger on some years.

If it is like a 67, push with your thumb and a quarter turn. See this post in the archives:

The other problem is usually the little rubber check valves in the plastic pump housing not seating.

My 69 pump does not have a bellows. It has a plastic piston with a seal like a square O ring. I thought it would come off as you describe but no cigar.
        Thanks

The pump's piston assy IS removable... Dis-mount the washer from the wiper motor, flip it upside down and study the mechanics of the piston's driving rod. You'll see you have to disassemble the washer's relay, carousel and drive gears to gain sufficient freedom. Then, it's simply a matter of tapping the pump cylinder/piston out of the 'slot' in the washer plate that holds them in place.

Get replacement parts from any equivalent GM washer pump out of a scrap yard. Where you'll be in a world of 'hurt' for replacement parts is on the opposite side of the pump...those components that service the head light washer sub-system!

I have the plastic pump removed from the mounting plate but the piston just will not come off the actuating rod. I bought a replacement from Delco but it is black and I rather not use it.
