I've got a 1989 automatic with a high mileage (110K) L98. What is the average life expectancy for these engines? Thanks.

Have 102K on my 85 and runs excellent. Expect it go at least another 100K+ since it is not ran hard and abused.

Well maintained 200K should not be a problem.

The only problem to be on the lookout for is timing set wear (i.e. sprockets and chain). If you start to notice strange "click-and-clatter" noises from the engine, it will most likely be timing set wear. Don't get to thinking that you have to replace or rebuild the whole engine. All you'll need to replace is the timing set.

I know of several with over 200K and still going strong! And they have not had the best of care either! Tom

I have a 1986 Coupe that I bought new. It now has close to 80K miles and runs great. I do need to replace the valve guide seals, however, which is somewhat common to these engines, I understand.
