I was able to have my speakers repaired and the removal of the door panels was not a big issue (although noticed) in the Crossed-Flags judging. My car typically ran 98.5 in flight judging, passed the PV on the first try, and picked up the Crossed-Flags in Boston this summer. Neither Bowtie nor Crossed-Flags judging precludes minor repairs of a limited nymber of items. The more repairs, the greater the risk, but just the Bose speakers shouldn't be an issue, they sound much better when repaired!Bill Clupper #618 -

Eric reference your C4's Delco Bose noise. I do not know if they still do it today, but I did check with Bose a few years ago on repair. The price was reasonable for sending in the Bose speaker and amp for repair. Getting the assembly out of the front doors is really not difficult if you are patient and don't mind taking the door apart.Comment

The award should not be any more difficult to achieve than the Bowtie, in fact, maybe less so due to age of cars invovled. I tend to think the reason for the low number is that the award has only been in existence two years.Dick WhittingtonComment

I had an outfit in Texas restore the amps on my speakers, did a fine job, also search "corvette bose" on the web and you will find numerous sources for repair, and at least one with a very detailed description with pictures of the process for removal and replacement. I am with you on being nervous about the PV on the "Crossed Flags" award, but it can be done including repair of the automatic air conditioning! It is my understanding that it requires a minimum of 90% in each of the four areas to achieve the Crossed Flags Award. A score of less than 90% in any area would result in not achieving the award. You may want to review the award description under the NCRS Awards Section of the NCRS website for verification.Comment

Multiple flight judging events, as a process, does not jeopardize your ability to achieve a Crossed Flags Award. However, what is done in preparation for Flight Judging can negatively impact attaining the award. Preparation should be limited to thorough cleaning and resist the urge to restore finishes. In regard to vehicle functions, they must work to orignal standards so any malfunction must be corrected to pass PV. Most minor functional repairs such as radio operation or lumbar pump repair may not result in a Crossed Flags score of less than 90% but would result in PV failure if not repaired.

Don, Thank you for the info. I suppose the differences between a Bowtie and a Crossed Flag are for a reason. (sort of trying to put the Bowtie Genie back in the bottle) I would hate to repair a bad radio or gauge cluster etc... on a very low mile car and eliminate it chances to be used as a information source for future generations. I will try to get it to a Chapter meet (AZ has one on 3/15/08) See how it does. Thanks again EricComment
