86 pace car

1986 corvette has emblem on dash says offical pace car Daytona 500 may 25 1986. is this something all 86s have ?or only pace cars thanks Mike

only on the pace cars. all convertibles that year were considered pace cars. i have a yellow one. they are fun cars

Mike,

FYI.

Your convertible has a C60 type air conditioning option. The same heater control face was used in the coupes but they had the C68 air conditioning option.

The difference at that time, between the 2 AC’s, was the rear defroster that was in the coupes. So the face plate hole for the rear defroster was used as a location for the pace car emblem, that was held in place by a speed nut, which the operator in 17-20 group of Trim installed as he built up the heater unit.

How do I know, I was there during that time and that group was my responsibility.
