    57 Seat Track Question

Does anyone know what the correct finish is for the seat tracks for a 1957 Corvette? Are they painted or plated? Also, what type of paint or plating would it be?

    Thanks in advance.

      Is that a cadmium plating?

      Thanks,

the tracks were silver cad plated, the handles were triple chrome plated but the pair of "barrels" that secure the chromed adjusment handle,(barrels were welded onto the track frame), were rought painted with a silver not unlike 67 rally wheel silver.seat frames were semi-gloss black(dipped). just finished doing my seat frame assemblies. mike

          Mike,

I was looking in the front of the judging guide and it refers to 2 different types of cadmium platings. One they refer to as "bright cadmium" or "silver cadmium". The other they call "gold cadmium" or "yellow cadmium".

Is the silver cad plating you mention the same as the "silver cadmium" mentioned in the JG? Or is it a completely different finish altogether?

          Thanks,

          Ashley

Thanks Roy. I think I'm going with just plain cadmium plating as well.

If I can get the seat tracks apart, I'll be taking them in to my cad plater along with my other parts. Are there any issues with separating the tracks? It doesn't look very easy on first look.

              Thanks again.

It is easy, the chrome handle is held on by two (what clamps things) one end is welded ,other not. so just pry them open and remove the handle, common scene will tell you how to remove the two pieces, just don't cad or loose the balls and ball holders.

                  Ashley:
Depending on how involved you want to get, my cad plater took my '58 tracks and taped up the handles so they wouldn't be damaged, but left the entire track system together. Not sure if the two years are similar or not as far as how they were assembled, but that may be one option. Amazing how much better it rolls once cleaned up and plated. Left the rollers inside too and they glide like new. good luck.
