    63 - 67 knock off wheels

I have a chance to buy a supposedly “Original” set of 63 – 67 Knock off wheels. Being a C3 guy, this is not my area (not that I know a great deal about C3’s). Are there any numbers, codes, etc, that would identify these as the real deal?

    Thanks

    Thanks

    Mike

No knocks offs in 67. Does this set have adapters, cones and spinners with it? In 67 they were bolt on. Search archives for numbers and stamps some differences over the years.

there has NEVER been a single 1963 that has been documented to have been delivered from the factory with k/o's - so, not original for 1963

Re: 63 - 67 knock off wheels. Question for Rick.

            Hello;
Know this is anecdotal, but personal experience.
I'm a '67 guy, but in '63, was a newby on the line in a Chevrolet service department.
We worked on 2 SWCs that were raced at Elkhart Lake raceway by a Metropolitan Life insurance Company exec. I remember them being Tan in color.
These cars had two bar Knock offs that we drilled the ears on and wired to the fins so the wheels would not come off on the track.
            Interested in your thoughts.

                Ray,

good question and I certainly am no expert, but would surmise the k/o's were over-the-counter SERVICE REPLACEMENTS or were actually 2-bars from the solid axle cars

NOTE - believe many of the "pilot line" cars (think there were something like 15) had 2-bar k/o's - sure someone like Jerry Bramlett, Mike McCagh and others who have traced history of the "pilot lines" will chime in and say I'm full of it

Re: 63 - 67 knock off wheels. Question for Rick.

my ZO6, built the last week of July 63, was ordered with K/O's but arrived at the dealership with 15 x 5 1/2 steel wheels that, based on owner history and kelsy hayes date codes, are almost certainly original to the car. the original owner is still suckin air and he tells me the dealer wouldn't refund the K/O option cost, in spite of the dealer being the original owner's wife's uncle. the original owner ordered and paid for 5 K/Os with 3 bar K/O's spinners over the chevy counter in Sept or Oct of 63 and ran them on his ZO6 till he sold it. i recall seeing a bunch of non-chrome plated 2 bar K/O spinners at a past member of MAC/NCRS in the early 80's. Jerry had them cast at a local foundry and was gonna have them plated and sell them . don't know if the reproduced 2 bars ever hit the market. mike

The last time I posted this picture everyone commented on the flipper.

Does anyone have a comment about the wheel?
