Damper bolt
Paul,
Any machine shop can drill and tap the crank for a damper bolt with the engine assembled and out of the car. It is definitely the right thing to do. I did not, and guess what, the damper came off after only a few miles. Thankfully at a low RPM, and it went out the bottom and did little damage. Of course I had to pull the engine (again) and have the crank drilled and tapped.
Even with what appears to be a "good" fit, the years take their toll on metal and tolerances.
It is money well spent!
Good Luck with your car.
