Finding a Corvette that was sold years ago

Often I see the "information wanted" ads in DriveLine where a person is seeking the whereabouts now of a car. Technically speaking, if someone had a VIN# for a Corvette, how successful could one be at finding that car after say 20 years? This of course is assuming it was still registered and the VIN number was recorded correctly.

Is there a national database available or is it necessary to contact each state? Anyone ever had any luck in this regard and how did you approach this? Thanks.

NCRS announces the addition of an Award Confirmation Document Service.
This service will provide a confirmation document with a complete listing
From the NCRS database of the available award statistics for a specific Corvette.

If it's now being interred in NCRS it only cost $300.00 to know if it's still around

Here is a link to the article that got me thinking about this. The article was published in the January 11th edition of the Wall Street Journal. Interesting read as apparently folks looking for a car they owned once extends much further than just Corvettes and Driveline.

Well, no offense but $300 seems a bit mercenary of NCRS but it may be worth it if you were successful. The article does say the odds are very slim. I think overall they may be a bit higher with a Corvette since some say that over 90% of all of them ever built are still out there, somewhere.

Would you still have to pay if the answer is no data?

        P.S. to Roy Braatz

Speaking of finds, I found this little number at a car show in Blairsville, Georgia in October. Tootsietoy, original copper color paint. Made in the U.S.A., no bubble top. NCRS history unknown. 7 bucks.

          Are you looking for one...

If so let me know the VIN I will see if I have it in my Data Base. I have about 8,000 vins I have collected over the last 15 years. Eric 3,182

Eric, yes I was able to get the license plate number from an old photo. From there I contacted the DMV here in Florida and after about 12 phone calls finally found a person who retrieved the VIN from an elderly database. The car being last registered here by me in 1985. In fact she said it is still registered to me, which confirms to me the car left the state. I believe to New York. I faxed an ad to Driveline but that has to be a loooong shot. I have the VIN at work and will shoot it to you Saturday. This could be a great Restorer article if it I ever find it.

                Re: Nabisco 53 Paper Corvette

Several years back I found an assembled paper 53, 54, or 55 in a local antique store. I believe the were stamped on Shredded Wheat Boxes. It has Chevrolet Corvette Nabisco Shredded Wheat Sports Car Model printed on the paper. The builder used toothpicks for axles.

You might try the C1 or C2 Registry if the car you are looking for is a C1 or C2.
