    Tools/Tool Kit for c3

I want to put together a small toolkit to keep in my 71 small block. Can anyone recommed a list of necessary important tools or took kit that may be available through one of the vendors. I don't plan on rebuilding the motor on the side of the road but need some basics and/or recommendations.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,

Rather than look to one of the vendors, I would go to Sears and get some Craftsman tools. High quality and lifetime guarantee.

Fan belt replacement... 1/2 inch wrench. Get long one with box and open ends.
Common bolts lots of places....9/16, long open/box
Slot screwdriver, two or three sizes
    Phillips screwdrivers two sizes
    3/8 drive socket set
    pair of pliers, medium
    10 inch crescent
    A spark plug socket
A can of tire sealer. Not the best thing to do if you can avoid it but will work in an emergency.

If you look at Sears, they have kits of various sizes that my well have everything you need and more in a case.

Are you planning local drives or to join the National Road Tour?
If so you might carry a fan belt.
An extra set of points and condenser. You can preset the points. Install them, set the dwell, then put them in your kit. They will be close enough to get you going again.
    A few extra spark plugs.

Maybe others can chime in with suggestions.

      Greg,

There is your basic trunk kit that is availabe just about everywhere with flares, cheap jumpers, mild first aid kit, and the very basic of tools (pliers and screwdrivers). I guess you should decide first what you would be willing to do on the side of the road. If you are not sporting an electronic ignition system, you might want to have spare points, condensor, and possibly a coil. Provided you can perform these installations yourself. It could save you some towing charges.Where I am located the side of the road (shoulder) is a dangerous place to even change your tire. Good luck. Be careful.

Verle's kit just about covers everything I would take on a road trip. I would add vice grips for stubborn bolts and two flare nut wrenches, the 1/2-9/16 one along with the one for the brake lines, can't remember the size off hand - 3/8"?

Fuses, length of insulated wire, electrical tape, test light, wet-naps, shop rag, elbow to bypass heater core, worm hose clamps, small flashlight, spare 1157 bulbs. My "road box" is a small Rubbermaid plastic toolbox with shelf insert that fits perfectly in the storage well behind the passenger seat in my '67.

            C3=Shark...

Those more familiar with C1 ('straight axle') or C2 ('mid year') cars can forget our C3 ('shark') cars have a LOT of vacuum hoses in them that aren't present on the earlier generation Corvettes.... One handy/dandy and SUPER CHEAP 'tool' for your road kit is a conventional golf tee.

What, why? you ask... Well, the native shape of a golf tee is a cylindrical taper that can be used in a pinch to plug just about any diameter of small rubber tubing. If this/that vac hose decides to let go on you while driving, ye olde golf tee serves as a perfect 'one fits all' natural vac hose plug!
