I have not been able to locate specifications for the front spindles for my 1969 vette. Before I shell out $300.00 for front spindles I'd like to be sure that what I am replacing really needs to be replaced.

1. Does anyone have any idea where to get specifications for the front spindles?

2. Is there any way to determine how bad the spindles are? Should I put new bearings and races in my hubs and measure the runout?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I seem to be digging a money pit to China.

The specs may or may not be in the specifciations section of the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual. If they're not there, the only way that I know to get them would be to measure an NOS example. I have several of these in my collection which I may or may not be able to get to later. If I can, I will post the dimensions, but I doubt that I'm going to be able to.

The only really critical dimensions are the bearing race surfaces. Usually, if these are worn it will be quite obvious and you won't even need to measure them to determine if yours are serviceable. Also, you can measure the ID of NEW bearings which mate with these surfaces. The spindle dimension should be about .001"-.002" smaller than the bearing ID.

I'll get the new bearings (Timken) and measure then.
I couldn't find specifications on the spindle dimensions anywhere.
I also couldn't find torque specs for the 3 bolts/nuts on the steering knuckle.
