    c1-58 wiring

Trying to get the engine compartment wiring routed correctly.

    1) Under the hood, there is a red wire that runs out of the firewall to the voltage regulator. Is this the only that runs through the clips to the regulator. The clips seem huge for just this single wire.?

2)Also, are the wiring harness clips from CC intended to be used on the tach cable, speedo cable, etc. Or is there a different style clip used for these large cables?

3)The engine harness that goes to the starter..... the clips that hold these wires under the windshield, how are they attached, as there does not seem to be any holes for screws?

    Susan -

As I recall from my '57 years back, there were two clips attached under the defroster outlet duct attaching nuts that retained the ignition harness under the dash and kept it up away from the wiper cables.

      1) I have the original clips on my 59. The clips that screw to the trans tunnel (one on each side) area bit smaller than the other clips in the engine compartment. The drivers side trans tunnel clip is for the speedo cable. The passenger side clip is to hold back the wires going to the starter.

      2) The clips at the top of the passenger side engine compartment wheel wheel hold the regulator wire and the tach cable. If you had FI/2-4's and windshield washers, then those clips also held some of the hoses.

Dave, If I recall I think the tach cable just floats in the air to the generator tach drive, from the top mounted clip next to the hood latch. I think the red wire is the only item that is held by the 2 clips under the wheel well.

Rich, regarding the top mounted clip next to the hood latch holding the tach cable - do you know if it is the same as the wiring harness clips you get from CC, or is it different. If different, do you happen to know a source/supplier?

If the clip for the tach cable is same as the one's from CC, do you just re-bend the clip to force fit it around the tach cable?

          Thanks.. Susan

            Hi Susan,

I just looked at mine, and the CC online pictures of their clips. My tach cable clip is the long type and appears that CC's look identical to mine. But this is my opinion only. Maybe others will add in comments too.

Also keep in mind that the judges expect to see bare fiberglass beneath clips in the engine bay as they were installed before blackout paint. This means screws as well as clips got painted also.
