Joe, Is This Part Still Available From GM

    Joe:

I would like to use orig. type lower windshield outer reveal moulding clips for my '65 roadster (the reproduction pieces that I have look like the "business end" is not in line with the originals, which might cause problems).
They appear on AIM UPC1 sheetF22 as 3843939 retainers, 11 required. I called my local Chevy dealer, whose parts man found them to be superceded by p/n 3904931, available at $1.40 each, list. THE PROBLEM IS that he also said that the coupe uses different clips, but that is not true (see AIM, next page). DID HE GIVE ME THE RIGHT PART NUMBER.
    Thank you in advence

    Joe-----

Yes, you did get the correct information. The GM #3904931 retainer is the SERVICE replacement retainer for use on the LOWER windshield reveal molding for 64-66 convertibles. I believe that it may have been the PRODUCTION part number for 1967 convertibles, but I can't confirm that at the moment.

The GM #3904931 retainer is also the SERVICE replacement retainer for the upper and lower moldings for 64-66 coupes. Once again, I think that it may have been the PRODUCTION retainer used for 1967 models. The GM #3904931 reatiner is, indeed, still available from GM for a current list price of $1.40/each. I can't guarantee you, though, that this piece, which is a SERVICE piece for 64-66 models, is identical to the original retainers used on your car. In fact, there very likely is some difference. Functionally, it's probably an improvement and, I expect, that's why GM changed the part for 1967.

Other than the retainers for the lower molding, all other windshield reveal molding retainers for 63-67 convertibles are GM-discontinued.

As always, thanks for your help.
On the reproduction clips I purchased a few months ago from Zip Products, the distance from the centerline of the attachment hole to the grip end, is different than the original clips. I will get 11 from GM, and hopefully they will be different from the repops, and closer in config. to the originals.

        Joe----

We'll know for sure after you get the GM pieces. However, usually if a part is still available from GM, that's where most of the vendors will obtain the ones they sell. So, I would expect that the ones you have will be the same as you will get from GM. But, that's not always the way it is. Post what you find out when you get the GM pieces.

          Joe:

Great to see that I am not the only one who is not in Orlando. I will call Zip Products, who have always been very courteous and helpful, and HOPEFULLY their parts manager can give me the straight scoop. If I get anything useful I will pass it along.
