I have a 1971 Vette, that was a 2nd flight car in 2005. I was not the owner at this time. My reading of the judging rules for the National meeting in St. Louis say that this car would be inelgible for national judging since I did not own it when it was judged. I did not realize national judging was so elitist.I have spent some big $$ correcting the issues noted on the scoring sheets and I am sure the car would top flight given an opportunity. This exclusion seems am bit arbitrary. Just my thoughts. Jim

Re: National Flight Judging
you need to have the car judged at a minimum at the Chapter level as the owner before going to National and what is so elitst about that? have your local Chapter judge the car and ensure it is TOP FLIGHT caliber - you have plenty of time to do that before National in St. Charles - or go to one of the many Regionals before NationalRick Aleshire

Re: National Flight Judging
Jim, I think there has been a misunderstanding...there is "national" NCRS judging at regional meetings all over the "nation", and there's flight judging at the annual national convention. NCRS has so many cars being judged that everyone can't be judged at the national convention, and that's why the rules are written that way. Having your car judged at the national convention is often to meet the requirements of another award.
I frankly don't know why anyone would want to go directly to the national convention just to get a Top Flight...the award means exactly the same from a regional. The only reasons I can think of is for "bragging rights", or as an attempt to enhance the car's value in a sales description. If your goal is to have the car receive a Top Flight award, your best bet is to plan for the nearest and earliest regional meeting. At the national convention, space is limited and the judges are the best of the best...you can also expect them to be the most thorough and least compromising on the details.- Top

Re: National Flight Judging
you go to the nationals after you are top flight at a regional event. the reason to get flight judged at the nationals is to get the duntov. to get a duntov you must first be top flight at a regional lever with a score of 97 or better. then the next step is to get a pv or performance verification. if you pass that then you go to the ncrs nationals. you need to get a 97 or better there to get your duntov.
its just like the nfl. first you need to have a good season. if your season is good enough to go to the play offs you do that. if you do good enough in the play offs you go to the super bowl. it would be nice to skip all the other stuff and go right to the super bowl but thats not how it works.
for corvettes the ncrs nationals is the super bowl. only the best cars go here.- Top

Re: National Flight Judging
If I did it again I would get the chapter flight done then PV done first at the regional, then go on to the nationals. If your car is just out of a frame off things are usually working good. Give it a few years and bugs will show up.- Top

Re: National Flight Judging
Jim, 1st welcome to NCRS. We are glad to have you.
There simply are not enough spots to judge every possible top flight car at a national. Cars are judged by teams, teams need to be assembled out of members who volunteer their time. There is only a finite amount of teams that can be assembled for any given event. .
Get it Chapter judged first. You will be surprised how long and thorough the process is. Much better to find that out without the added expense and aggravation of getting you car to the National event. Just a word of advice. If you think we are elitist now before an event, I am positive you will not like us at all after your car has been judged. Just human nature to blame the subjective messenger. That reproduction master cylinder cover Corvette Central promised in their catalogue will be 100% correct, won't be. Trust me those national judges know their stuff.
Even better go to an event Regional/Chapter and volunteer to be an observer judge. You will learn a lot. Eric #3,182- Top

You're welcome to visit us at the Motor City Regional in May on your way to the National, if you are interested in having your car judged as well as having a great time.
