    1963 SHOCKS

Delco change the way they dated shocks about January 1963.They also changed were they stamped all the numbers from the top to the bottom of the shock .I have A original late 62 front shock standard suspension and the the info is at the top.I believe this to be correct because that is the way Delco did all shocks . My question is were the rears also dated on the top.Standard suspension. Were the F40's also dated at the top?.

        Re: 1963 SHOCKS

I have a set of original standard suspension rears from a car built in late October 1962. The shocks are stamped on the top with all the information. Can you verify the date coding. These are dated 9A62.

Sept first week of 1962. The first number is the month the next leter is week of the month and last is tthe year . This is the way Delco stamped all shocke til 1963 . what color are your shocks black or grey. I disagree with the judgeing manual on this .

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture before I stripped them, but they were black.

Gary and Dan, My 63 Coupe has the original front shocks. They were always black. Never had any traces of grey. My rear ones though aren't correct as they are from a 69 Corvette. I have heard these shocks are supposed to be reproduced but haven't seen any yet. John D.
