I need to replace the front frame on my 56 generator (adjustment locking bolt hole really wobbled out bad). I picked up a front frame, but found that the dimension from the centerline of the armature to the centerline of the mounting hole where the rubber insert goes is shorter than the one on my car (3.25 inches vice 3.50 inches). I am reasonably certain that my car is correct, since the rear plate with tach drive is also 3.5 inches center to center. I can't find any numbers on the plate to go by - but I bought it from a guy that wouldn't steer me wrong. Is there maybe a difference between the frames on right side mount and left side mount generators on the corvette? Thanks

Re: 56 Corvette generator
Steve,
The shorter front plate is correct for the '56. The vender sold you the correct one. It should be aluminum and have no fins nor casting numbers. The rear plate that is actually 3/8" longer c/l to c/l of bushing is in fact for '58 and later HIGH horsepower Corvette engines. Not many are aware of this difference, '58 and later high horsepower engines (only) had the generator c/l 3/8" further away from the manifold. The '56 and all '57 used the shorter generator front and rear plate. The side of the engine the generator was mounted on through out the years made no difference in the generator mounting plates.
