I have a 65 coupe with a build date of April 1st. My interior rear view mirror is dated June, 1964 (6DMI4). Is is possible for an April build date to have a June mirror or should it be dated sometime in the first quarter of 1965?

Re: Interior Rear View Mirror
Jim - I trust your car does not have back up lamps? I expect the answer is no.
That being the case, all things are possible being that the mirror is dated prior to the build of the car. Having said that the mirror could well be the "original" mirror to the car even though the date is outside the NCRS 6 month guideline, the typical expectation as far as date prior to build date, although there are some documented exceptions for certain items.
So, if the mirror is the correct configuration and you have no reason the think/believe it is not the original mirror to the car, I'd stick with it (but that's my opinion).
If you are going to have the car judged, you might want to stick with it based on your knowledge of the car, your decision; but if you are after or need the points, you might want the mirror date to conform to the NCRS guideline.
Have fun.

Re: Interior Rear View Mirror
Pete,
You are correct in that I do not have the back up lamps (part of comfort and convenience option). I have the original sales invoice that lists the options and that was not included. From the paper work that I have, I don't have any reason to believe that it is not the original mirror. As I go through the car and discover items that are not original (for example my antenna is a replacement), it appears that currently available items were used which adds to my belief that the mirror could be original. I have not been successful in contacting previous owners (I have copies of all titles for the car)except the person I bought it from to find out if it was replaced. I never have had the car judged, some say I should, don't know if I will. Sometimes it's the little things that bug us. I agree with you and will stick with what I have. Thanks for your response.

Jim - It's always interesting to dig thru a car's history. My experience is that most likely repairs were made to make things works so when repairs were needed the things that got replaced are generally detectable and more than likely do not conform to either factory build dates or NCRS judging standards. And if it wasn't broken, they didn't just change it. Your mirror is an interesting example. In fact if someone changed the mirror why didn't they just put on a late day/night mirror? Who knows, but maybe one of the previous owners know the answer. Sounds like a nice car. Have fun. Pete- Top
