I am restoring a 1954 Corvette which appears to have had a cockpit cover installed at one time. It has snaps across the decklid & tops of doors & dash edge. I was wondering if you know of this being an available aftermarket item from years ago or if it was custom made & added. If we leave the snaps for a new cover how would this affect judging & value. Thanks

Re: 1954 Corvette
If you were to leave the snaps in place, and the judges were having a bad day they might deduct a point or two (out of a possible 4500). The deduction is not because the snaps are there, it's because there's a minute amount of fibreglass 'missing' due to the holes for the screws.
Value? I'd pay you full value for the car, plus what it costs to buy a new tonneau cover. I think they're cool.- Top

Re: 1954 Corvette
My survivor 57 had a tonneau cover and my 15,000 mile 54 has one as well. They were very popular back in the day.
My Nassau/Daytona/Sebring car also has one.
However this would not be factory correct...for your restoration. I suggest removing the snaps. Without the cover in place..the snaps look terrible.
When you are done..doing Flight judging and you want to personalize your car you can always install a tonneau cover then. I doubt that you will.
