Anything special, in terms of finish, outer diameter, thickness, etc., for the nuts that hold the tri power holley carburetors to the manifold ? My 400hp car has lock nuts for many of these, which can't be right.

They were standard, zinc plated hex nuts. However, keep in mind that 2 of the fastener positions used bolts, not studs with nuts. These were the left rear positions for the forward and center carbs. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '68 tri power carburetor hold down nuts
Joe,
I had noted the two bolts per the AIM drawing. I wonder why two, and not all three, carburetors had a bolt ? And what particular function did the bolts serve that a stud and nut would not ? Does anyone know what the markings on the head of these bolts were, so I can be sure I have correct ones ? Also, was the stud for the air cleaner threaded all the way up, or only at the ends ? I've seen both. Thanks for your comments Joe, and also to any '68 tri power owner who might want to chime in.

I don't know why the bolts were used for the two positions described. I suspect it might have been some sort of clearance issue.
Original air cleaner studs were threaded on the ends only. The upper end was threaded for a significant length; the lower end had shorter thread length. These studs were never available in SERVICE.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
