Hello all,

What am I looking for to determine whether the transmission in my car is original to the car? I have a 1964 327/300HP Coupe. It has a 3.36 posi. I pulled the engine and trans. and have all of the numbers from the trans.

Last few numbers of the Serial number of the car will be on the case. Stamped on the side.

A big clue is whether or not the RH side of the case has been stamped with your car's VIN number or not. This was a Corvette production practice and the stamp on the RH upright of the case (just ahead of the tranny tail piece) should mirror the VIN derrivative on your engine's stamp pad...

64 case is a casting ending in 325, and the top bolt boss at the reaqr of the main case has a rounded end

A few more ...

'64's had a "429" tail extension housing, with speedo outlet on driver side (not a "584", with opposite side speedo).

If '64, the assembly date code will be on the lower right corner (machined flat surface) of the side cover [eg. P0315).

shifter levers (1-2 and 3-4) do not have 2 sets of holes for a quick-throw shift.

If you have separated the trans from the engine, you should notice no circumferential rings on the input (clutch) shaft [close ratio would have 1 ring]. You can confirm this by shifting lever into 1st gear and turning the input shaft (say 25.8 turns) and the output will rotate 10 times.
