56 - 57 tail pipes

I am wondering what keeps the tail pipes on 56-57 Corvettes from burning the fiberglass. I know the pipes go through a fiberglass tube and exit through the rear bumper. Doesn't that get hot? And what would happen if you ran a car without the rear bumpers, and just let the tail pipes come out through the tubes?

pipes would have to touch the tubes to damage the resin in the fiberglass.mike

I am doing a frame off on a 56. WHile cleaning the bottom of the car, I noticed a few dark brown/black spots from the exhaust. Not uncommon, I wouldn't think.

I save pic's for down the road to show people when I see a correct part or something good.I see a V8 engine on the frame , dont think it's your's.
By the way when did NCRS say the sides of the under body were painted black.

That's actually 1953 #130. Only 53's had undercoat from the front to the rear, as you see here.

Sorry Brett I dint realize that only 53 did that ,but I've seen it done on NCRS 54's and some 55's which I know 55 dint! Hope you dont mind me using your pic.

By the way any one reproing the headlight seals with the wire coated rubber .

My pics are always ok to use, Roy. Haven't seen the seals for sale as a repro.
