C3 Birdcage Repair - What Guage Metal?

    Quick Question:
I'm doing a little metal work on the birdcage to undo someones sins of the past.
I've got to weld in a little metal to finish up the repair.
    What guage sheetmetal works best?
I'm working in the upper corners around the windshield.

    Thanks,
    Ron

What I have observed is it seems different gages are used for different components; e.g. sheet metal gusset reinforcements will be thinner, while major strength components like windshield pillars will be formed from thicker material.

The best approach is to use digital calipers to measure the thickness in the area you're repairing. You will be able to accomdate some difference in thickness if you are MIG wire welding, but if the thicknesses are too far apart, trying to weld thin to thick will be an interesting proposition.
