My 71 is an early June production car and currently has a plastic/fiberglass rear window storage tray. The judging guide says that 71 used the fiberboard type and 72 used the plastic/fiberboard type. Did any later 71's use the plastic one or has mine definitely been swapped at some point?
Were plastic rear window trays used in late 71?

Re: Were plastic rear window trays used in late 71
Brad,
My late 71 is black fiberglass. Judging guide states 70 and POSSIBLY early 71 had the flocked pressboard. Trays for 71-72 were black fiberglass. Source-NCRS TIM&JG. What guide did you use?

Re: Were plastic rear window trays used in late 71
mine is Third edition 1970-72 corvette technical information manual & Judging guide.
On page 17, it says "1970-1971 the tray is made of black flocked press board, in 1972 the tray was molded of black plastic."- Top

Brad,
I have the forth edition 70-72. Page 29 "rear window storage tray". I guess they have revised the issue. Black fiberglass is what you should have.

Re: Were plastic rear window trays used in late 71
I bought a fiberboard one just in case mine was wrong even though I thought it would have been unlikely that someone changed it given that it is not so easy to reach back there and get to the rear bolts.
I am glad that I do not need to change mine now.- Top

Re: Were plastic rear window trays used in late 71
I have a 71 #21467 built the last few days of 71 production. The rear window tray is the late 71 plastic style but also has the 72 style push button release. One other interesting thing on this car is the lack of the rubber windshield lower extension that is integral with the side pillar weatherstrip. They were eliminated in 72 but apparently they ran out of them prior to the end of 71 production.- Top
