    Stripping wheels

What is the best method to remove clear coat from and aluminum wheel. These were coated years ago and need to be restored. Thanks

Strip the clear coat using aircraft stripper and follow with a lacquer thinner wash.

      Re: Stripping wheels

For stripping alloy wheels, any chemical paint stripper from Home Depot will probably work just fine...you have no worries about the stripper soaking into fiberglass.

I used Kleen-Strip KS-3 Premium Stripper in the gold can, and it worked like a charm. I only did the fronts and used less than a quart out of a gallon; use this information to buy what you need. It was kind of wierd when that clear began to wrinkle and bubble up...it looked like packaged tripe I used to see at the market. No...I never had it unless it was mixed into something (menudo?), but some people eat it.
