    1967 Speedometer Rebuild

Looking for advice and input...Have a speedo that works well but odometer and trip odometer stopped working. Tach and all other gauges work well...Tried to repair with lube and resetting several times. No luck. Then dropped the steering wheel and took the entire dash cluster out. While open, replaced speedo, tach cable and odometer trip cable; all new bulbs; refinished back of dash cluster, repaired any wires that were nicked or damaged, etc...

I am toying with the idea of rebuilding the odometer and trip odometer myself. What are the pitfalls and things that I should know before I tackle it--or--is it best to pack it up and ship out to a shop that does this all day long? Any good articles that I can read first? I can get a 3 gear kit from LI Corvette for $50. Looking for input on the best way to attack this project. Been told that it is a relatively easy job as long as I go in and DO NOT take the needle off the speedo...

Input and suggestions from the members is appreciated!

    Best to ship it out.

Have not removed a needle from the speedometer on a 1967, however I have on my 1970's speedometer. Have done it twice in fact. Real easy, I just gently twisted the needle counter-clock-wise and it came off easy. Put it back on both times by just gently pushing it on when it was lined up.

Did do one myself, had to take it out a short while later, I'll second it's best to send it out.

          Sal,

I sent all of my gauges to Roger Scott @ Corvette Instrument Service.

          NO REGRETS!!!

Great work @ a fair price.

          Good luck,

          Anthony
