I recently purchased a correct 64 steel wheel (for my 64 coupe) with a non-DOT BFG Silvertown tire still mounted. The tire is in good cosmetic shape but the tread is a little worn. It is obvious that it has some miles on it. As far as judging is concerned, would the tire be of any point value to display as the spare or would I be better off getting 5 reproduction tires for judging? I realize the tire is not safe for actual use. Thanks. Jim
non-DOT tire worth keeping?

Re: non-DOT tire worth keeping?
Judges always prefer original to reproductions. If it would me, I would keep it as a spare for Judging if it's the correct tire. Gary....Shopping online for all your Home/Work/Auto needs?

Re: non-DOT tire worth keeping?
Jim,
I'd show the original tire and eat any minor condition points. It's fun to see the real thing especially when it's a perisable item like a tire.
Don't see many and others can enjoy it too. Just have a back-up availible if you drive to the meet.

Re: non-DOT tire worth keeping?
Alan,
why did you lose 4 points!? should have been only 3, as that is standard deduction for current day DOT-marked OEM bias-ply tires like we would buy from someone like CokerRick Aleshire
