Tomorrow I am doing a compression test on a 70 LT-1 equipped with the transistorized ignition. Plugs are out and I want to disconnect the coil wite for obvious reasons. Does anyone know of any concerns regarding the TI ignition. I don't want to overoad anything or damage the amplification unit. Are there any other wires that I need to disconnect.
Side note: Any ideas what compression should be with 11.0 CR
Suggest you disconnect the amplifier plug. This will eliminate the 12 volt power to the amp. The magnetic pickup in the dist. will still induce a voltage (that will not get to the amp.), but I don't think it will hurt the pole piece to generate a voltage against an open circuit.
The compression pressure should be in your service manual. In 1963 base and L-75 are speced at 160 psi; 150 psi for SHP and FI. Eventhough the latter have higher static compression ratio, the valve timing of the Duntov cam kills some low speed dynamic compression.
