Wondering if anyone reproduced the valve cover engine suffix code decals for 71 (CGZ, specifically). I see that Paragon seems to have them for 66-69 codes, but no others.
Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 71?

Check these guys out. Dick Whittington suggested them on this forum last week. They had an emissions sticker I needed that none of the other vendors had.

Struck out on that, but worth a try. No big deal, I guess, it would probably eventually fall off just the like original did many years ago. They did say that they make decals themselves and may be open to making these if they had an original or at least a really good pic of an original. It is probably hard for them to work out the economics on something like that even if that had a real one to start with.- Top

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
If you check the archives you can see a real good shot at original one. Look at those post on that. I was interested making one, so I ask some of the size questions and so on, also in the judging manual is a lot for good info on that sticker.
With that knowledge I was able to make a very good label.
Using just the program that is on most if not all personal computers PAINT, I made that label and a few others.
You have a label maker right now, it is not really that hard. You might not get it right the first time but keep playing around with it a you can make some really nice labels.
In fact years ago there was a article on doing just that using you PC to make most of the labels.

I found this on a website some time ago. I can't vouch for it's correctness.

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
I think we all have a copy of that sticker.
I was even privileged enough to actually meet the car that belongs to the sticker when I was at the National meet last summer.
However, the sticker, though real, is not the "most typical" of factory production.
The key is knowing all the variations of the stickers over the years. I know of very few people who have a large database of these stickers, as the vast majority have not survived 40 years.

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
Patrick,
I have the sticker from my 71,350/270,4-speed...CJL. I literally blew it off the valve cover the first time I cleaned the engine at the car wash in 1971. Fortunately, I picked it up and put it in the glove box. Is this something you'd be interested in having a photo of?

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
Hey, that's my sticker! It came off my Top Flight, 4 Star Bowtie 70 LS5, Vin 531.
When I bought the car, the previous owner presented it to me in a plastic bag.
He mentioned that he noticed it loosely flapping on the valve cover, ready to fall off. So thank fully he removed it.
When I bought the car it had 26k miles on it. The story goes that the car was never driven in the rain, and based on the condition of the chassis, the valve cover decal and the owner history, I believe it.
I have more photos if anybody wants them.

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
If I saw a CGZ sticker on an LT-1, I'd almost immediately denote it as fake; those things blew off sitting at stoplights, and nobody bought LT-1's to putz around town in. I was under the impression that only the base motor (with the plain painted valve covers) had them; the stickers wouldn't stick to the bare aluminum LT-1 covers....judging manual is in barn, and it's too cold to go out and check. I could be wrong, and if so, I shall hear about it soon.....- Top

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
So I have an Lt-1 without the sticker and have it judged, do I lose 3 points (or whatever the point value is) or is it viewed by judges that lt-1's did not come with that sticker. I honestly have never had a car judged so am pretty unknowledgeable about how some things are treated in judging. I was just looking through the scoresheet and realized that I do not have one and must need to get one.- Top

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
No clue....I'll have to check my car to see if there's even one on there, as well as check the JM(they're both out in the barn). I recall that it was a GM requirement to have the sticker on the passenger side valve cover on all Corvettes, big and small block. But after looking at A LOT of LT-1's over the years I've never seen an ORIGINAL CTU, CTK, CGZ or whatever-the-'72 LT-1-suffix-code-is sticker on an LT-1 valve cover. My car has grease pencil CGZ marks on the block, but I don't recollect seeing a CGZ sticker on the valve covers. I'm sure the points deduction is minimal and I'd bet that Dr. Rebuild or somebody is making a repro. If I remember, the '70-'71 labels had crappy water-soluble glue that held the labels on; in '72, they discovered Krazy glue or something, and because of that the '72's are more apt to have the labels. So I'd bet that if you have a '70 or '71 and it actually HAD a suffix sticker, they'd probably dock you because it is actually on the car, moisture didn't make it fall off, and therefore it's deemed correct but not original because the glue isn't correct! Ain't the NCRS fun?- Top

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
Go ahead. Be critical of those stickers. I am.
I suspect that the glue, no matter what year, didn't stick well to the aluminum. Most known examples are on engines with painted valve covers, then those with chrome and last the aluminum ones.
Don't forget that you lose both condition and originality points if the sticker is not there.
If you look around, excellent reproductions are available.

Re: Does anyone repro v.c. engine code decal for 7
I will get one and install it then, if it is judged that it should be there, it seems like a relatively inexpensive cost for a few points compared to some items. I checked with several of the normal reproduction places (Dr Rebuild, Paragon, CC, Ecklers, CA, etc. and none have them for 71, several have them for 66-69 codes. It seems that it can be re-produced on a do it yourself basis if needed though.- Top
