Can anyone suggest a good battery shut-off swith for use on side mounted battery terminals? Also, are there any electrical memory functions (other than the clock) on a '76 that will be affected if I disconnect the battery? Thanks.

Re: Battery shut off
I use the lever style by LGB. They are in Drivline. I won't use the style with the green knob. I was at a flight judging and saw a Z-06 almost start on fire because they could get the green knob style undone. smoke coming from under the dash. They needed pliers to disconnect it. Couldn't turn it with there hands. Also the knob was getting hot. The cigarette lighter shorted out when doing the opps check. The lever style you can just reach in and lift it and it has a better connection.- Top

Re: Battery shut off
the only reason someone told me to take a green knob shutoff over the lever was that once you unscrew and remove the knob, the car is (i've been told) undriveable-no way to steal it if you can't start it. Otherwise I would think the lever is easier to quickly disconnect.- Top

Re: Battery shut off
I have the green knob on 8 collector cars, including my 1968 and 1969 Corvettes, for years without issue. I disconnect them everytime I park them in the garage. You don't want to overtightened, or worse, cross thread them when tightening.
I also like the fact that if I decide to take the car for a drive and I want to run into a convenience store, the bank or even walk away from the car at a cruise nite to check out the other cars, I don't need a wrench or even have to open the hood to disable the car. The green knob travels with me in my pocket.

Re: Battery shut off
I have a version of the green knob that has a fused bypass lead that allows for the radio & clock to keep their memory/time.
The cars still cannot be started without the knob properly tightened.- Top

Re: Battery shut off
The green knobs switches are OK but don't last very long. I have gone thru a lot of them. They go bad very fast it seems. I have seen more than one guy around here with a "wiring" problem and starting problem when in fact it was just his wore old green knob gizmo. John- Top

Re: Battery shut off
No more green knobs for me.....A couple years ago after I had bought a "green knob" version.....The circuit was still continuous and the car would start, even after the knob was loosened a few turns. It's lever only for me now.
I only show the car now and my car is under "lock and key" at home and I never let it out of my sight, so theft is not an issue for me. When I start actually driving the car....maybe I'll find a green knob that really works.- Top

Re: Battery shut off
Brad, I often suspect that more than one manufacturer makes the green knob shut off. I have had some on a few of my cars for many years with no problems. On the other hand I had one on a car and it caused a lot of grief.
Restoration Battery sells a good one. John- Top

Re: Battery shut off
John....You're probably correct....I'm sure that some are very cheaply made.....the one I had was bought at Harbor Freight and you know how inconsistant their products are in spite of the fact they all "look" alike. These things depend upon a thin membrane to isolate the conductivity which I'm sure breaks down over time.- Top
