'67 roadster mirror

Does anyone know if there has been an article written ("Restorer" or other) related to the "repair" of the outside mirror. Mine has broken at the point of the swival ball and I'm wondering if there is a repair that can be done to replace the ball and shaft which is attached. Looking at the front of the mirror, it appears that there is some sort of snap ring there, but thought I'd ask first and not risk breaking my original mirror.......

Yes, there is a snap ring that hold the mirror in place. You just have to very carefully catch an edge of the ring and work it out. The mirror should then fall out and you will have access to the space behind it. Don't know about a repair kit, but you might be able to buy a repo mirror and part it out to repair the original inards! Just a thought.

This won't tell you how to replace the ball and shaft but will tell you how to disassemble the glass from the housing. If you can get a new ball and shaft, there is someone on this forum who has drilled out and tapped the rivets, which holds the little pressure plate to the ball. You would have to remove the plate to change the ball and shaft.

If your glass is the dated original, and in good shape, it is probably easier to get a correct repro, and just change the glass with your original. That's a "snap to fix".
