hi all - don't have my aim handy so forgive not be able to cite the exact part...but on the bracket that attaches the nose of the diff to the cross member - there is the bolt at the cross member side and then 2 at the diff nose side - the top one of these, as i back it out, hits the battery holder - is there a trick to getting this out with the battery holder still in place? - thanks! - stephen

thanks joe...as always...that bolt is out...so i will try what you said and let you know how it worked! to be clear...when you say lower...do you mean to hang on it a bit or do you mean undoing a bolt somewhere to lower it? - thanks! - stephen- Top

With the front bolt removed and driveshaft removed, the nose of the differential will usually naturally lower by enough to get the bolt out. If not, you can "pull down" the nose enough by hand to do it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 - Diff assm by bolt
thx joe - have the front bolt out and the drive shaft out - but don't have any play in the nose??? - are you assuming the diff is attached or unattached to the half-shafts? - thanks, stephen!- Top

I've done it both ways. It might be easier with the half shafts out, though. Usually, you just need a small amount of lowering of the nose of the differential to get the bolt to clear. You do have the strut rods and bracket disconnected, don't you? If those are installed, you'll never get the nose to down.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

uhhh...sure i do...yah...of course...what you think i am...an ameteur or something...oh...that would be correct!!...i am an ameteur and a rank one at that...so, next the "struts" and the "bracket" will come out...i'll try again...if still no go, the half shafts...its got to tip a bit at some point...thanks again Joe! - stephen- Top
