Greg,
For the 1969 model year the first edition owners manuals are dated August 1968 and second editions are dated December 1968. Nobody knows exactly when second editions arrived in St. Louis but in my opinion on the judging field any December car most likely could have either edition. January and later should have a second edition. If you are going to purchase the items you might as well buy the item that sensibly fit the build date of your car.
I have a 69 Coupe that was built on January 14,1969 and it has the First Edition owners manual. I'm fairly confident that it is the original since I have owned the car for almost thirty years. I understand Dave S.'s logic, but I suspect they exhausted the First Edition inventory before they cut over to the Second Edition. Maybe someone will respond with a build date closer to yours. Mine is serial number 13,099. Good Luck.
Rick- Mine is a L36 Coupe...body off and in a million little(and some big) pieces!
Kevin- Thats interesting. I've also had a few people tell me that it's possible to have either the first or second edition during this transition period. For what it's worth I just noticed that my original manual says second edition. I too assume that it's orignal because it looks like heck with the cover missing but it still has the tear-off card stub in the front that repops don't have.
Steve,
You're not kidding on lots to do. A year into this project and the list just keeps going, and going and going. Currently trying to figure out radiators and Distributer/ignition. Also finding some surprises with the body as we do the chassis resto. Deeper and deeper being the operative phrase!
