65 Fuel Injection - Plenum removal / Install

On a 65 FI when you spearate the Plenum from the Manifold and reinstall the plenum the left, center, rear nut can only be tightened by removing the air meter - what a pain. Is ther some scheme to torque this bolt without removing the air meter a special tool ?

Plan to run my 65 FI engine on the dynomometer at "Performance Clinic" this Wednesday evening for our monthly NCRS meeting. See ncrs.org/mvc for dyno plots next week.

After a number of break in cycles and a power check. It will be interesting to see if it will break 375 HP as the factortory claimed.
The engine is 0.060" over, TRW Popups, champhered crank oil holes, std crank and completely balanced. Heads are ported / polished, polished valves, hard valve seats, combustion chambers polished and intake and exhaust ports flow matched to intake and exhaust manifolds. Dave Midleton owner of "Performance Clinic" did machine work. Yours truely did heads, inspected and assembled the engine.

John Degregory restored the FI unit and it is almost too beautiful to put on car - wife nixed the idea of puting it on the butler table in the living room(: The restoration was perfect - every detail. Thanks John for a wonderful piece of work.

All the nuts can be accessed with a 9/16's flexible socket and a 10" extension. You may have to nudge one of the nozzle lines out of the way and/or open the throttle slightly to poke the extension through the linkage on the one behind the air meter.

There's no need to dis-assemble anything.

I agree with Mike, the nut can be installed and tightened without removing the airmeter.

Use a 9/16th flexible socket with an extension. You can get a high quality socket at Sears but a cheap one will work. I have used a 9/16 short socket with a universal joint then the extension but the extra length makes it harder to do.

Late at night sometimes the neurons get lazy. Got a flex socket in tool box.
A nice new Snap-On the lady bought me for Christmas. Any Gal that will buy her guy sockets for Christmas is a Keeper - after 41 years she know me pretty well.

        Thanks for the help.

i can top that gift giving experience. several years ago, the snap-on dude, who comes by monthly, had a neat screwdriver on the truck. it had imprinted on the handle "MOM". beings how mothers day was coming up soon, i got it for my bride of 42 years. she's never forgotten it. keeps it in the pretty pink snap-on box and anytime our friends mention gifts they've received, ole Lea drags out the screwdriver her thoughtful hubby got her for mothers day.with tongue in cheek.another time the snap-on guy had a Snap-on salt and pepper shaker set, shaped like the handles on their screwdrivers. she keeps them in the kitchen. i just love the snap-on truck. mike
