C2 fan belt question

I found a new fan belt while cleaning up in my shop yesterday. It appears to be the captive belt for my L-79. However, in checking the archives, the # doesn't match up to what Joe L. (and others) said before.

Anyone recognize this part no.? It's still in the original GM Goodwrench holder.

I googled the number

This is what I got.This special "captured" fan belt eliminates the need for an idler pulley or alternator to maintain proper belt tension. Use with 65/8" diameter crankshaft pulley P/N 3858533 and 71/8" diameter water pump pulley P/N 3770245.

The GM #9433722 was a "special" fan belt of 34-3/8" length designed for use in certain "captive" belt applications as well as other applications. This includes many 63+ Corvette applications whether they were originally equipped with an idler belt, or not. Actually, folks with an idler belt should consider themselves lucky and not convert to a captive belt---the idler pulley makes for a MUCH easier belt installation (folks with a captive belt might even be advised to add an idler).

However, the GM #9433722 belt was never used in PRODUCTION for any 63-72 Corvette; it is a SERVICE belt that came along about 1973.
