71 AIM

Hey guys,

I just realized that my AIM does not have an exploded view of the rear control arm assembly (spindle,flange,bearings,caliper bracket, and park brake.
I guess it was introduced at the line as a pre-assembled unit. Anyone care to share a copy of it or tell me where to aquire one? Thanks for all the support.

As you surmised, the rear control arm assembly was delivered to St. Louis as a complete assembly. That assembly did have a part number and that's what is shown in the AIM. This part number was a PRODUCTION-only number, never available in SERVICE. So, you will find no "exploded view" of the rear control arm assemblies in any of the AIM's; it was completely unnecessary for PRODUCTION purposes and the AIM was strictly a PRODUCTION-oriented document.

You will find exploded views of the control arm assembly in some earlier editions of the P&A Catalogs and also in the Chevrolet/Corvette Service Manual.

Joe, any chance that you have something that shows that part numbers that are correct for the bushings? Would part numbers 3743857 for bushings and 3820418 for the caps be correct for 71?

I see that most of the repro catalogs indicate that the 63-74E had a smaller diameter/different bushing than 74L-82.

I am hoping the part numbers above are the earlier years and not the 74L-82 version.

GM #3743857 are the TRAILING ARM FORWARD BUSHINGS. GM #3820418 are the plates (caps) used on either side of the bushings. These parts are the same for all 1963-82 Corvettes. No part number change or change in the configuration of these parts ever occurred.

Now, if you're really talking about the STRUT ROD BUSHINGS AND CAPS, that's a different story----they were different for 63-74 versus 75-82. The 63-74 SERVICE strut rod bushings are GM #3775762 (still available from GM) and the 63-74 strut rod bushing caps were GM #3791519 (long-since GM discontinued and replaced for SERVICE by the 75-82 caps GM #348390).

Thanks Joe, I think I was looking at the strut bushings in the catalog, not the trailing arm ones, I probably need both anyway...
