Got a color question on 67, with red interior should the steering column be red with a black collar or a black column? If the column is red should it be eggshell like the dash or semi gloss like the rest of the interior? Thanks in advance sincerely Brian

Re: C2 67 Steering column color
Brian,
I think the steering column is black like the instrument panel. I used Krylon 1613, semi-flat, on the steering column, instrument panel, and glove box for my 67. On the plastic parts, use a plastic primer. The Krylon is very thin, and won't fill scratches, so you have to have everything very smooth and use multiple coats.
Take a look at this one from the archives:

Re: Jerry, what's brand of plastic primer do you u
Hi, Gary if you got professional spray equipment I recommend PPG DPX801. I'm a professional painter with 20yrs experiance and that is my first choice, just used it on this 67's dash pads and red dye over top and on the parking brake cover and seat backs with red semi gloss Acrylic Lacquer over top. Re: C2 67 Steering column color
Jerry - As always, looks great but I would expect the plastic collar pieces to be "natural" black plastic rather than painted; that's what it appears the ones on my 67 are. What's your read? Thanks, Pete- Top

Gary,
I used Eckler's Plastic Primer A1929 prior to the Kyrlon. Not that I'm a big fan of Eckler's, but they seem to provide some good paint products.
Trick is to get it very smooth, used 3m synthetic steel wool, very fine, to rub out any surface imperfections.

Re: C2 67 Steering column color
Pete,
Got dinged for the sun fading the first time, and then DPA the second time on the column. They don't make any repro's of this collar as far as I found.
But only 2 points off for the whole column on condition, both times. So I thought I'd paint it. We will see if they notice it next time. Maybe it's only a point, but it sure looks better to me.
Wonder if the last 67 got dinged on the steering column condition.
