    C2 Radio Dilemma

My 64 is going to be restored to NCRS show standards. The car came to me with a radio. The problem is, the car was NOT delivered to a dealer with a radio. Someone, maybe the dealer, added it later. I've read discussions on this in the past regarding doing it right and making everything look correct if a radio was added. That's not an issue, but rather should I take it back to a non-radio car which is very unique given that only 1295 left the factory that way (5.8%). The only radio features on it are: a correct radio with intact paper labels, cut hole in dash with bezzel, correct speaker, aftermarket antenna/cable. No grounding, capacitors, ign. shilding, etc. The right engine mount to frame bracket has no screw threads. But wait, it gets better. The hole cut for the antenna is in the wrong spot (just aft of the bulkhead about half way across the overlap FG reinforcement. So, I would have to fill that hole anyway, leaving buying a new dash (or filling the cutout and reskining) can that be done ? I always thought the radio was cool, but I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world without it if it's not kosher to leave it in since it "didn't come that way". I'm trusting your valued opinions here since I opened Pandoras box. Thanks, Jim.

Ditch the radio & buy an ipod. All holes can be filled.

agree with ken. just make sure any repairs to the antennae hole in the rear top surround doesn't impact on the area where an antennae would have been installed had it been a factory installed radio vette.that way, should the judges detect the dash repair, you can have them look up under the rear top surround and detect the fiberglass is virgin in the factory antennae installed area. mike

        Jim,

Dash area is easy to fix and can be done so that the repair does not show up at all from the front side. I use I-POD Shuffle with ear plug headset in my 67 and sounds are great. I'd bring it back to it's original state. There are also many other options for radio sounds available to you. Good luck with your project.
