The finish on my '69 vacuum canister for the windshield wiper is basically, gone. It looks to me like there is no way to dismantle this piece for a re-finish. Suggestions? I've got the rest of the engine compartment looking pretty good, execpt for this item. I don't know if they were all the same in '69, but mine is the one which looks like it'd make a great planter if gutted :-).

There are folks who professionally restore these if you send them in to them. I believe that Sal Carbone who contributes to this board restores them. You can contact Sal through www.yankeelady.com. Look for Sal Carbone's Restoration Parts Outlet. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: W Wiper Vacuum Canister Restoration
Lonnie,
I had mine restored by Dave Resheske of Dave's Corvette Restoration. When I gave it to him at Bloomington, he checked to see if the internal blader was OK before accepting it. It appears he re-plated it as a unit as it shows no signs of being taken apart. A new actuator rod seal and $125 later it looks good as new. Dave's located in TX (281)488-7813 Don Smith #28087- Top

Re: W Wiper Vacuum Canister Restoration
I have had a few re-plated and had good results. A good plating shop should be able to do this for you. They did not take the ones I had done, apart. Just make sure when you get them back to get all the fluids out from the plating tank before re-installing it on the car.- Top
