I need to replace the gasket that goes between the outer heater cover and the heater core on my '61. The gasket is on the firewall side. It appears to be some kind of rubber but it has deteriorated. Corvette Central and Paragon don't list it and Dr. Rebuild shows it as a putty composition. What kind of gasket is it and does anyone know where I can get one?

Both Paragon (part # 751k) and Corvette Central (part #451015) have the gasket you want, but it comes with the rest of the heater gaskets in a kit. Dr Rebuild has it seperately ( part # 8858130) What's the problem?

Re: C1 Outer Heater Cover gasket
Art,
You are correct. There is a putty like material, often called dumdum (sp?), around the heater plenum on the firewall. I've heard it said that you just need to get a black colored caulk from a hardware store, but I would think that the Dr. Rebuild stuff would be more correct. I have not had to buy any myself, so I can't comment from experience.
