    1954 stamp pad

The casting number and dates match the car, but I'm curious about the stamp pad. The first 5 numbers look gang stamped, then the next two numbers ("4" and "7") have a deeper impression and look like they were stamped individually. Then, the "F" and "YG" are deeper than the "54". Deeper meaning it looks like the numbers were struck harder with a hammer when they were stamped.

    Any professional opinions?

    Thanks,

    Randy #45471

    Randy-

Here is the stamp of the engine pad on my old 54. I am 100% certain that my engine was the original engine in the car - I purchased my 54 from the original owner, and the engine compartment was unrestored.

The only difference between my stamp and your stamp looks to the the YG at the end. I don't know if that is meaningful or not. Everything else looks the same.

I believe that Chevy also stamped engines 911 blocks ending in just the Y, so it would be possible to add the G at the end of a Y block.

The fonts look the same between the two except for the "G" which appears to look slightly different. The surface of the pads looks very similar.

How would mine fair in judging do you think?

I think your pad works fine from the judging perspective. As I look further thru my collection of engine pics, I have a pic of an original corvette engine that looks the same as your - with the G stamped separately from the Y.

I am not a 54 engine pad expert. But I suspect you have an original Corvette engine.
