Tool for installing Rubber Carpet Fasteners

I have replaced the carpet in my 1971 but need to get under the carpet and don't want to have to replace those rubber carpet fasteners again (there are 9 total--three each side up front and 3 in back holding carpet under rear window) if there is a tool for it. Last time it took me hours to get them through the firewall. Any suggestions. Thanks Paul

For the 6 up front I would some silicone lubricant on them from underneath the car and push them out. Have not had to deal with the rear ones yet.

I have seen a picture of a pin punch with a washer welded to it so you dont't push the punch through the rubber fastener. I have had good luck with a helper to pull them through from under the hood after they are started. I burn the holes in the carpet with a pencil solder iron which I think helps the most as the carpet won't drag on the plug.
