I thought so too Roy. The second looks much closer to the one for my car. It's interesting because there are serveral on Pro-Teams website that look like the first example. Some even have the numbers crooked. I assume since these were held on with screws many of them have gotten lost over the years.

I dont know if these means anything on C-1's. I do this on odometers. I line up a yellow piece of card board at the bottom of the first and last number. Then look to see if any are high or low. Then the same across the top. The deep stamped one appears to be quite straight across. The light stamped one is up and down. I dont know if this is good for tags or not. Will someone share their thoughts? Dale

ON e-bay some one is selling the tag Repro, you can see that the original numbers is stamped lightly not deep or hard like the first one.So many Corvettes are being found that have no tag // I guess that's what a person has to go to. You cant stop all this repro stuff and so much of it is out there , that in time no one will know the difference any more but a old few guys.

they both look correct to me. the same guy does not do all the stamping. one guy may punch it harder than another guy. its all done by hand so you will find some numbers a little crooked from time to time. usually the repro tags look better than the original. they take more care to get it just right. the factory was not that concerned about thet. they were all correct.

i have seen block stamp pad numbers upside down.

i'd like to see the black paint removed from the vin tag that appears to be stamped deeper that its companion. perhaps the paint down in the stampings are an optical illusion. mike
