1971: Original Carb or New Carb?

Yesterday I posted a message regarding my 71 original small block needing valve seals and carb question. I received great advice/direction.

I believe my original carb needs rebuilt as well. This leads to my next question:

I have the original carb. My car is a nice driver and it is very original. I'll put about 3k miles per year on it. I plan to have the car judged at the end of this year or next year, starting with at local meet. Should I buy a replacement carb to have while preserving the original carb while driving it? I don't want to get to a point where the original is "shot". Any advice or opinions is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Greg
