74 air cleaner

Will a 74 dual snorkle air cleaner clear a gm hei distributor? Carb is a quadrajet. Thanks, Mike Aquilino.

The dual snorkel air cleaner was used from '73 through '75. And '75 was the first year for HEI distribuors from GM. So there should be no clearance problems.

Yes, but the 73-74 air cleaner (GM #6487577) and the 75 air cleaner (GM #8994027) were different. I really don't think that there would be a fitment problem, though, if a 73-74 air cleaner were used with the 75+ style HEI. However, I can't conclude that, for sure, as a result of the above-referenced.

After reading Joe's message, I went to my Vette Vues '73 to '77 Fact Book and compared pix of both '74 and '75 engine compartments. From those shots, it looks like the ignition top shield on the '75 extends farther than the '74 possibly due to the larger distributor cap of the HEI setup. You might want tocheck it out. You may need toalso change the top shield to make it work.
