Hello, I've been researching my '74 in the archives and found several posts that say the oil pan on 63-74 small blocks should drain from the rear. However the TIM&JG for 73-74 says it should drain from the driver's side.
Which is correct?
All 1973-74 Corvette oil pans, both big block and small block, used a REAR drain. Period. Some folks say that very late 1974 small blocks used the 75-79 style pans which did use a side drain. However, I've never seen a known case of it.
Except for 1975-79, all 1963-96 Corvettes used unique-to-Corvette oil pans. 1975-79 used, essentially, a passenger car pan although extra baffling was provided for L82's.
Thank Joe!
The one on my car drains from the rear, but I always suspected that someone changed it due to the close tolerance to the bellhouseing, good to hear its still the correct pan. I wonder if the people who write the judging guide are aware of the error, it could cause someone alot of problems if they try to put on a left side draining pan and want to have the car judged.
